His 13 Premier League titles put him clear of Arsene Wenger, Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola all put together. And no one has managed to emulate his 1999 Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup treble. Even Manchester United themselves have still not recovered ever since his departure. Despite efforts from David Moyes, Louis Van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the club have yet to lift the again since Ferguson’s retirement.

The Manchester United fans have nothing but admiration for Sir Alex Ferguson. Under his tenure, United became England’s most successful club winning 38 trophies, including 13 Premier League titles. Ferguson was also the manager who first brought Cristiano Ronaldo to Old Trafford subsequently turning the Portugal international into a superstar.

Ferguson retired in 2013 much to the fans disappointed. Manchester United have failed to follow Ferguson’s legendary success and are yet to win a Premier League or Champions League title since his departure.

Sir Alexander Chapman Ferguson, popularly known as Sir Alex or Alex Ferguson, is surely one of the most successful managers in British football history. Ferguson achieved some success in Scotland as a player and then a manager but his most popular stint is of course with Manchester United from 1986 to 2013. In his incredible years of guiding the club, Ferguson led Manchester United to 13 Premier League titles before retiring in 2013.

Considered by many as one of the greatest managers of all time, he has won more trophies than any other manager in the history of the game. During his time at Old Trafford, Sir Alex won the FA Cup five times and the League Cup on four occasions. He also led United to two UEFA Champions League trophies. Sir Alex Ferguson was knighted in 1999.

Best Moments in Sir Alex Ferguson’s career: First Premier League triumph in 1993

The Red Devils’ iconic win not only ended their 26-year long wait to reclaim the English football crown, but it also set in motion an era to be synonymous with Sir Alex Ferguson’s era. When asked about creating a dynasty in 1993 he told Sky Sports, “Well, we have the platform and we definitely have the resources.”

“We have the players, as long as they’re hungry, because if they’re not hungry you can never achieve anything. I would be saying to my players now is, ‘go on, the door’s open for you. If you really want to do it, you can do it.”

Premier League 1995-96

After leading United to its first Premier League in 26 years, Ferguson repeated the feat in the 1995-96 season. He did it with style and with so called ‘kids’, as it introduced us to the likes of David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs. These players who were going to be successful in the future were popularly known as ‘Fergie’s Fledgings’.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s 80th Birthday: Champions League Final – 1999

Manchester United defeated Bayern Munich 2-1 in an exciting Champions League final. Ferguson’s men scored two quick goals in injury time to record an emphatic win, but also capped off a treble of trophies for Man United. The Champions League win added to their Premier League and the FA Cup in the same season.

Champions League Final – 2007-08 (Penalties)

Manchester United defeated Chelsea on penalties in an all English final of the Champions League. After a 1-1 draw at extra time, Edwin Van Der Sar’s heroics gave Manchester United their third European championship.

Premier League – 2012-13

In what was Sir Alex’s last season as the head coach of Manchester United, he not only coached his 1000th game, he also went on to win his 13th Premier League title, as his side beat noisy neighbors Manchester City by an 11-point margin.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s 80th Birthday: Cristiano Ronaldo and Sir Alex Ferguson

Cristiano Ronaldo and Sir Alex Ferguson share a father-son relationship as Ferguson had brought Ronaldo to England and it all started at the Theatre of Dreams for the Portuguese and he always thanks Sir Alex for the opportunity.

“I always say that for me he’s like a father for me in football,” Cristiano said. “Probably he doesn’t remember, but I will say it because it’s a beautiful story. One day, my father was in hospital, and I was so emotional, very low. And I spoke with him and he said: ‘Cristiano, go there for two or three days.’ We had difficult games and I was a key player in that moment.

“He said: ‘It will be tough because we have difficult games, but I understand your situation and I’ll leave you [out] and you can go and see your father.’ For me, these are the most important things – apart from winning Champions Leagues, to win the Premier League, to win cups and stuff. So I have to appreciate him, because what he said to me, he always did. I have to appreciate that.”
