UFC: Conor McGregor to Make His Bare Knuckle Fighting Debut in the Near Future
Ariel Helwani asked if McGregor would ever consider participating in a bare knuckle fight, to which he received an affirmative response. He stated, “Yes I would do it for sure. It’s hard to get a boring fight there. And it’s actually impossible for a boring fight to happen there. And I will tell you why. No one in the discipline can say that there is a zero percent chance of a boring fight.”
He added, “We can have a snooze in boxing, and MMA also has snooze as well. But there is no chance of getting a boring fight in Bare Knuckle because even if it is a back and forth jab match, even jab split skin, so it causes panic in the ring. And then the crowd rises and then it will not be boring.”
McGregor’s interest in bare knuckle fighting reflects a broader trend of UFC fighters exploring opportunities in other combat sports. Former UFC fighters like Chad Mendes, Eddie Alvarez and Mike Perry have transitioned to bare knuckle fighting, where the potential paydays can be significant. If McGregor were to actually compete in a bare knuckle match, it would bring major attention and money to the emerging sport.
For now, McGregor remains under contract with the UFC, but he seems open to bare knuckle if the opportunity arises down the line. His legions of fans would surely follow him to see how his skills might translate without gloves.
