Shreyas Iyer Injury: India vs Australia Test – India’s star batsman Shreyas Iyer has cleared the fitness test just in time for the 2nd Test. However, instead of sending him to domestic cricket, he will directly join the squad for 2nd Test against Australia in Delhi. However, whether he makes it to the Playing XI is a matter that the team management will take a call on. Suryakumar Yadav played in his absence but could only face 20 balls in Nagpur. With Shubman Gill also in the squad, Iyer might have to spend time on the sidelines. Follow IND vs AUS LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.

“India batter Shreyas Iyer has successfully completed his rehab at the National Cricket Academy following his back injury and has been cleared by the BCCI Medical Team. Shreyas will join the squad in New Delhi ahead of the second Test of the Australia tour of India for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy,” BCCI said in a statement.

However, there is a possibility that one of the two — Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav — could be named in the Irani Cup squad. If they do so, one will miss the 3rd Test in Indore, also starting on the same day.

Shreyas suffered a back injury ahead of the ODI series against NewZealand and missed out on the first Test against Australia. Now, selectors could follow the same path like they did for Ravindra Jadeja as Iyer has not played any match for a month.

Since Roger Binny has taken charge of the BCCI, the Indian board has passed a diktat for all Indian players to prove fitness in domestic cricket before returning to Indian team following an injury layoff. Jadeja was the first of many.

What is the status on Shreyas Iyer? – Shreyas has started outdoor practice after spending almost a month recovering from a back injury. On the day when Team India reached Delhi, he was cleared by the BCCI medical team to join the squad in Delhi.

“It is an idea. But only the selectors will be able to say whether he should play in Irani or directly report to Indian team. But yes, the idea is to have a smooth transition from injury to international cricket through domestic,” the BCCI official said.
