Shreyas Iyer future uncertain! Batter still not fit for Asia Cup 2023

Shreyas Iyer is anticipated to be ready for selection in the Asia Cup's later games,

With his recent back ailment still bothering him, Shreyas Iyer won’t play in Tuesday’s Asia Cup Super 4 match against Sri Lanka. He is currently being watched remotely by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) staff, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) managers, and the Colombo-based team management.

BCCI ahead of the game confirmed that he won’t be available for India’s second Super 4 game. The batter also didn’t travel with the team to the stadium.

On Sunday, the first day of the squad’s two-day match against Pakistan, a team representative disclosed that Shreyas Iyer had a back spasm during warm-up.

During the toss, captain Rohit Sharma revealed that the problem was discovered during warm-up and that it had caused Iyer to sit out.

The captain later said that the choice to play KL Rahul was decided just five minutes before the toss during the post-game presentation.

KL Rahul, who took Shreyas Iyer spot in the playing XI against Pakistan, was praised by Rohit Sharma for his performance.

“And then KL, to return from injury and then find out 5 minutes before the toss that he’s playing, and to perform the way he did, it shows the mindset of the player,” Rohit said during the post-match presentation.

Shreyas Iyer is anticipated to be ready for selection in the Asia Cup’s later games, and there is currently no plan to send him back.

Shreyas Iyer future in Jeopardy!

Given that the team would be playing back-to-back games in three days, there have been some talks about resting some players vs Sri Lanka.

Shreyas Iyer won’t be one of those substitutes, though. However, signs point to the team management perhaps selecting the same starting lineup as against Pakistan.

Returning KL Rahul who replaced Shreyas Iyer in India Playing XI pondered on his comeback inning and said that after playing the first 10 to 15 balls, his initial apprehension subsided.

“My first international match in a very long time, of course. I participated in a few exhibition games, but as we all know, the level of competition is not the same. So I had that initial trepidation as I stepped in. It took me ten to fifteen balls to simply cool down, begin moving, and start thinking rationally. Then, after I over one or two limits, all of those things—including the haziness in your vision—went away, and everything returned to normal. I was examining the ball and the circumstance, and you can see what needs to be done. However, it started raining just as I was getting into a rhythm,” said Rahul, who scored an unbeaten 111 told Star Sports.
