In a great start to the shooting Asian Olympic Qualifiers in Jakarta, India’s Varun Tomar has bagged country’s 14 quota for Paris 2024, by clinching a gold medal in the 10m air pistol men’s individual final. This victory has come after he combined with Arjun Singh Cheema and Ujjawal Malik to clinch the team gold for India.
The 20-year-old Varun shot a final score of 239.6 in the final, to get past compatriot Arjun, who settled for a silver. Meanwhile, this is India’s fourth quota in shooting for Paris 2024. Interestingly, 16 quota places are available at the continental event.
The likes of Esha Singh, Rhythm Sangwan and Surbhi Rao will be in action later in the day, in the women’s 10m air pistol event.

As many as 385 athletes from 26 countries are taking part at the Senayan Shooting Range in Jakarta, with 256 medals (84 gold, 84 silver and 88 bronze medals), at stake, besides the Paris quotas.
