Shane Watson warns Rohit Sharma & Co of ‘extreme transition’ from IPL 2023 to WTC Final 2023, Check WHY?

With just a couple of days left before the start of the World Test Championship Final between India and Australia, former Australian all-rounder and Delhi Capitals assistant coach Shane Watson has said the transition from the IPL 2023 to the WTC Final 2023 will be extremely difficult for players from both sides.

Australian all-rounder and Delhi Capitals assistant coach Shane Watson has said that the shift from IPL 2023 to the World Test Championship Final will be an extremely difficult transition. The WTC Final 2023 is set to be played at The Oval from June 7–11. The Indian Premier League 2023 finished on May 29, just a week before the start of the ‘ultimate test’ between Australia and India for the coveted Test Mace.

“There’s no doubt that this transition period for the guys I think is going to have to be extreme. Get as much volume as they possibly can facing new balls, trying to get the nets as spiced up as possible,” Watson told ESPNcricinfo.

The IPL went on for two rigorous months and saw several red-ball players participate from both sides. The event scheduled during the Indian Summer doesn’t benefit the players, and with just over a week of rest, it does not help players with their recovery or change in mindset.

Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Shami, as well as captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, and Ravichandran Ashwin, competed in the final WTC final in England in June 2021, following the IPL.

“That’s the only way you can get your game back into hitting the ball under your eyes. Yes, you need that positive, aggressive intent but still understanding what balls you can score off and what balls are higher risk,” he added.

Watson feels that no time should be wasted during the players’ training sessions.

“The thing you’ve got to understand is what you really need to work on if you’ve only got a couple of days,” Watson said.
