Shane Warne Passes Away: What comes as a shocking news, Australian spin legend Shane Warne has passed away at 52 years of age. As per reports, he suffered a cardiac arrest on Friday night in Thailand.

“Shane was found unresponsive in his villa and despite the best efforts of medical staff, he could not be revived. The family requests a privacy at this time and will provide further details in due course,” his family said in a statement.

In September last year, Shane Warne revealed that he was put on a ventilator after being diagnosed with Covid-19. He is amongst hundreds of sportspersons (former and current included) to have suffered cardiac arrest after recovering from the virus.

“It was a bit like a hangover, I had a pounding headache. The first couple of days, when I tested positive, I just had a thumping headache and I had one day where I had the shivers, but (was) sweating, like when you have the flu,” Shane Warne told The Herald Sun.

“I lost a bit of sense of taste for a few days, but after three or four days I was fine. I have apparently got the holy grail. I have been double vaccinated and I have had Covid, so I am meant to be absolutely fine now.”

Considered one of the greatest of cricket, Shane Warne bagged 708 Test wickets in 145 matches and 293 wickets in 194 ODIs. His rivalry with Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan is believed to be one of the best in cricket. The leg-spinner was known for his guile bowling and took a total of 1001 wickets. He became the first-ever bowler to scale the peak of 1,000 international wickets.

Since his retirement in 2007, Warne led Rajasthan Royals to their only IPL title in 2008. He later took to coaching and coached Rajasthan Royals besides playing spin consultant role for Australia.

Just 24 hours before Shane Warne’s death, another tragic news struck the cricket world when Australian wicketkeeping legend Rodney Marsh passed away after a major heart attack.

“Cannot believe it. One of the greatest spinners, the man who made spin cool, superstar Shane Warne is no more. Life is very fragile, but this is very difficult to fathom. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and fans all around the world,” Virender Sehwag tweeted.
