According to reports, Lipp had just returned from a month-long training trip for MMA and Muay Thai in Thailand. She was travelling to a residence in Moorhead to work as a nanny when the tragedy occurred. In a last-minute match in October 2022, she was defeated by a unanimous decision.

She spent most of her time training at the Academy of Combat Arts in Fargo, Minnesota. She was a bright young athlete who “really fell in love with martial arts” and “showed a lot of potentials,” the gym’s owner, Dylan Spicer, told Valley New Live.

Shalie competed in track & field and gymnastics before to fighting. Shalie dropped out of college to pursue a career in MMA after participating in the pole vault at North Dakota State University.
