Shafali Verma on learning very important trait from Sachin Tendulkar 

Shafali Verma spoke about cricket great Sachin Tendulkar being her role model during the early age.  Speaking about her role models on Star Sports show ‘Follow the Blues’, Verma said “Growing up, playing cricket, I used to watch Sachin Tendulkar sir. So of course, Sachin sir is also my role model and I love to see him, how he is playing the game and he’s very calm. And I was also thinking to learn something like that from him.”

During the interview Verma also spoke about the difference between playing in open category and the U19 World Cup. She said  “There is lots of difference because the ball is coming in a little slow in the U-19 and the wicket is also in the slow end and we are trying to get used to that.

“And of course, a little bit of difference, seamers have good pace, a good mind-set here also but they are all learning and I really enjoying playing with them. I think it’s very important for women’s cricket to you know, as they way Mithali said, that for growing up and developing talented players, for them it’s very good.”

Shafali Verma’s performance in the Women’s U19 World Cup 

Shafali Verma is currently the second-highest run-getter in the ongoing Women’s U19 World Cup. The team India skipper has accumulated a total of 123 runs in just 2 matches. She has already stamped her class with 16-ball-45 against South Africa and 34-ball-78 against UAE in a consecutive win for the Indian girls. Under Shafali’s leadership, India Women U19 have won both their opening two matches against South Africa and UAE.

Playing in her first and last U 19 World Cup Shafali said, ” “Of course it’s very good feeling. It is my first and last because it’s my last year of U-19. “We have a good team, we are really enjoying with the girls and I hope we will play good cricket and of course we will be here for the world cup and we will try to achieve that. I would say we are doing well in batting, bowling and fielding and as captain, I hope we win the World Cup.”

India have been placed in Group D with South Africa, UAE, and Scotland. After beating South Africa and UAE, India is scheduled to play their third and final match of the group stage against Scotland on January 18. The match will take place at Willowmoore Park B Field in Benoni.
