The Perth Scorchers have once again booked their spot in the Big Bash League final, and captain Ashton Turner is largely to thank. The 30-year-old smacked a career-best 84 (47) not out against the Sydney Sixers in Saturday evening’s Qualifier at Perth Stadium, combining with Cameron Bancroft for an unbeaten 130-run partnership for the fourth wicket to help the Scorchers chase the 152-run target with nine balls to spare. It was the Scorchers’ highest fourth-wicket partnership in BBL history.
The reigning champions will subsequently host next weekend’s final, while the Sixers need to win Thursday’s Challenger to keep their campaign alive.

The Sixers won the bat flip and elected to bat first, but opener Josh Philippe couldn’t survive the first over, bowled by Scorchers seamer Jason Behrendorff for 1 (3). Behrendorff’s onslaught continued when Kurtis Patterson (6 off 11 balls) slapped a catch towards mid-on, where Scorchers all-rounder Aaron Hardie held onto a one-handed screamer. Silk’s unbeaten 47 (34) guided the Sixers towards 8-151, with Behrendorff (2-17 from four overs) the pick of the bowlers.
