Sadio Mane SPEAKS OUT about Leroy Sane incident, says could’ve HANDLED it better

Sadio Mane finally opens up about punching Bayern Munich teammate Leroy Sane. He says he could have handled things in a better manner.

Sadio Mane: Sadio Mane joined Bayern Munich at the start of last season from Liverpool. His time at the German club was not what he expected it to be. Additionally, he got involved in controversy as he reportedly punched his teammate Leroy Sane following their 3-0 defeat against Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-final first-leg match. Sadio Mane has finally opened up regarding the matter. The player explained to a Senegalese TV station that he could have handled the matter in a better way.

After the previous season ended, Sadio Mane left to fulfill his national team duty. Senegal had two matches against Benin and Brazil near the end of June. During that time, the player appeared for an interview with 2sTV, a Senegalese television channel. There as he explained the situation between him and Leroy Sane, he said, “Something like that can happen. It happened. We were able to solve this small problem. Sometimes it’s good to solve problems, but maybe not in this way. That’s behind us now.”

Mane joined Bayern Munich from Liverpool at the start of last season. He was a key part of the Liverpool team that won the Champions League and the Premier League titles. They did not want to lose Mane, but he wanted the transfer. Hence, reportedly, he moved to the German club for a €32 million transfer fee. However, his life at Bayern Munich was not all good. He only managed to score 11 times in 37 appearances. He also suffered from injuries during the one season he spent there.

Mane could not impress the coach and gradually lost his place in the starting lineup. He even started a ruckus as he reportedly punched his own teammate Leroy Sane. The two had some disagreements on the pitch during their 3-0 defeat against Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-final first-leg match. Apparently, the fight followed them to the dressing room and took an ugly turn. He then punched Sane which later cost him as he received punishment for his actions.

He was suspended and was even fined €350,000 by Bayern for his actions. His position at the club has not improved since then. He still expects to play more for Bayern as he said, “If everything goes well, I will return to Bayern. It’s been a very complicated season, but that happens. It wasn’t a surprise to me. I expected it to be a bit complicated. That’s normal. I love challenges and Bayern is a big challenge. Now it’s up to me to give everything to meet this challenge.”

Even though coach Tuchel said the matter was resolved, still, since the incident, Mane seems to have lost his position at the club. There have been rumours that he might be leaving the club only after one season with them. He has even been linked with a move to a club in Saudi Arabia. However, his agent has ruled out the possibility and said, “I haven’t heard anything about offers from Saudi Arabia. It is certain that he will stay with Bayern.”
