SA beat ENG Highlights: South Africa exit despite beating England, Rabada last over hat-trick & Dussen’s 94 power Proteas to 10-run win

SA beat ENG Highlights: Earlier, England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and opted to bowl first. Rassie van der Dussen’s unbeaten 94 and Aiden Markram’s 54 Not out helped South Africa set 190 target for England.

South Africa lost Reeza Hendricks in the third over but Quinton de Kock and Dussen kept the scorecard ticking. After de Kock departed in the 12th over for 34, Aiden Markram played a quickfire knock of 52 off 25. Partnering Dussen, Markram put up a 103-run partnership to take the score to 189.

However, South Africa needed to defend the total and restrict England to 131 or less. That didn’t go according to plan. Jason Roy and Jos Buttler were off to a great start, putting up a 58-run opening stand and after Roy retired hurt with a calf injury, Moeen Ali kept hammering. Once Ali was sent back by Shasmi, Dawid Malan kept the chase on and Livingstone hammered Rabada for two consecutive sixes to knock South Africa out.

SA beat ENG Highlights: South Africa end WC on a high, Rabada hat-trick & Dussen’s 94 power Proteas to 10-run win over England

SA beat ENG Highlights: However, Kagiso Rabada had other plans. Needing to defend 14 runs in the last over and he already being taken to cleaners with 45 runs in his first three overs, things didn’t look good for South Africa. But Rabada delivered when he needed to. He sent Chris Woakes back on the first ball and then Eoin Morgan and Chris Jordan to wrap up the matter for South Africa.

The win didn’t mean much as Proteas fell short on net run rate. They finished third with same points but +0.739 NRR meant England and Australia qualified for the semifinals.

@19:20: South Africa will need to beat England by at least 61 runs to better their NRR than Australia’s. If they beat England by 100 runs, it could bring down England’s NRR to below +1.675.

@19:15: England bowling first, means it will be almost impossible for South Africa to surpass their NRR. Hence, the semifinal race is between South Africa and Australia.

As for Playing XI, England have decided to make just one change to the Playing XI. Mark Wood came in place of injured Tymal Mills. For South Africa, it will be an unchanged squad.

England (Playing XI): Jason Roy, Jos Buttler(w), Dawid Malan, Jonny Bairstow, Eoin Morgan(c), Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Chris Jordan, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood

South Africa (Playing XI): Quinton de Kock(w), Reeza Hendricks, Rassie van der Dussen, Temba Bavuma(c), Aiden Markram, David Miller, Dwaine Pretorius, Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, Anrich Nortje, Tabraiz Shamsi
