After losing to Gervonta Davis in their high-profile match at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in April, Garcia, a junior welterweight star from Victorville, California, engaged in a public dispute with Golden Boy founder Oscar De La Hoya. Davis triumphed via KO in the seventh round.

Garcia, who has a record of 23 victories, 1 defeat, and 19 knockouts, publicly criticised De La Hoya for skipping the post-fight news conference, prompting De La Hoya to respond on Twitter. When Garcia’s rival Rolando Romero and De La Hoya posted a cordial selfie together on social media, the tension increased.

In a recent interview, Arum stated that he had heard favourable things about a possible confrontation between Lopez and Garcia from both De La Hoya and Golden Boy CEO Eric Gomez. Although this specific problem was not addressed in the interview, Top Rank and Golden Boy’s exclusive network deals with ESPN and DAZN, respectively, further complicate this match.
A tweet about the upcoming boxing fight has been made by Boxingscene but it also stated that the fight completely depends on the golden’s boy relationship with Garcia.

Garcia (23-1, 19 KOs) chastised De La Hoya for skipping the post-fight press conference, and De La Hoya responded by criticising his client on Twitter. De La Hoya stoked the fire further by posting a friendly photo of himself posing beside Garcia’s opponent Rolando Romero.
Lopez is the WBO junior welterweight champion, and Arum rightfully believes that any talk of a bout between Garcia and Lopez is premature given the tense situation between Garcia and De La Hoya.
Lopez (19-1, 13 KOs), a former undisputed lightweight champion, defeated Josh Taylor over the course of 12 rounds at The Theatre at Madison Square Garden in New York City in June to win the 140-pound division’s title. Since his unexpected defeat by George Kambosos Jr. in 2021, Lopez has acted irrationally (both inside and outside the ring).
As long as Lopez can avoid distractions, Arum is convinced that he can dominate the junior welterweight division. Later, Lopez told the WBO that he intended to keep and defend his title.
