Asian Games 2023 Cricket Squad: Ruturaj Gaikwad will lead a young Indian side in the upcoming Asian Games 2023. IPL 2023 stars Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh were rewarded a place in the squad for BCCI’s first foray into the quadrennial event. Shikhar Dhawan meanwhile was snubbed for the tournament. The competition will take place from 28th September to 8th October in a T20 format.

Gaikwad will lead India for the first time having been in and around the set-up for the past couple of years. He is part of the current Test series in the Caribbean. Washington Sundar makes a comeback to the side alongside Rahul Tripathi and Shivam Mavi. Arshdeep Singh returns while Avesh Khan and Mukesh Kumar add depth to the attack. Gaikwad’s CSK teammate Shivam Dube also earned a recall.
However, veteran players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Shami, KL Rahul, and Jasprit Bumrah will miss the Asian Games. This due to the Asian Games 2023 clashing with the IND vs AUS ODI series and the World Cup 2023.
