Rohit Sharma keeping ‘Fingers crossed’ for Shreyas Iyer fitness

Shreyas Iyer has resumed his batting practice at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru since last month.

Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma has provided a significant update regarding Shreyas Iyer’s status for the ODI World Cup 2023. Rohit has assured that Shreyas Iyer is progressing well in his recovery and expressed optimism about the batsman’s potential availability for the marquee event.

“Shreyas Iyer is on the track to full fitness, so fingers crossed for World Cup,” said Rohit Sharma.

Notably, Iyer has resumed his batting practice at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru since last month. His fitness is of great significance for the Indian cricket team’s journey towards the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, given that he is considered the leading candidate for the crucial No. 4 position in the batting lineup.

KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have commenced net practice, indicating positive progress in their respective recoveries. A senior BCCI official stated that both players are on the path to recovery and might even be included in the Asia Cup squad. This update brings hope to Indian cricket fans as they eagerly await the return of these talented batters for the upcoming tournaments. However, the announcement is pending as the board awaits the fitness report of Shreyas and Rahul, both of whom are scheduled to undergo a fitness test this week. According to the official, both players are about 80% fit, and are not yet ready to participate. The board is expecting the assessment report by Saturday, and once they have a clear picture of the players’ fitness, the squad for the Asia Cup will be disclosed.
