Rohit Sharma is a good captain but… Yuvraj Singh on India’s World Cup chances

Yuvraj Singh believes Rohit Sharma is a very good leader as he handles pressure situations well

Yuvraj Singh: With less than 60 days before the World Cup 2023, experts are back with their opinions. Yuvraj Singh, who was part of the World Cup-winning team in 2011, believes a captain is only as good as a team. Under MS Dhoni’s captaincy in 2011, India had Sachin Tendulkar, Zaheer Khan, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh & Harbhajan Singh. All these players had played in two World Cups before the 2011 WC.

Yuvraj stated that “Rohit Sharma is a good captain, but you will have to give a good team to him.” MS Dhoni was a good captain too, but he had a good team with experienced players,” the southpaw said to Indranil Basu. In the current team, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, & Mohammed Shami have World Cup experience as they featured in 2019 WC. Not only experienced players, but India also have a lot of youngsters who are capable of winning games on their own.

Yuvraj Singh: Yuvraj Singh lavishes praise on Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, says very sensible guy under pressure

For the uninitiated, India have been hampered by injuries to their key players. India are playing without Bumrah, Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Shreyas Iyer for quite some time now. While the likes of Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson have not grabbed their chances well, Yuvraj believes Rohit has developed into a good leader and handles pressure situations well.

“I think Rohit has become a very good leader because he has led Mumbai Indians in IPL for such a long time. And He is a very sensible guy under pressure. You need to give a good team to a sensible captain who is experienced as well. MS Dhoni was a good captain, but he also got a good team right?”

Barring Pant, Rahul, Bumrah, and Shreyas Iyer are slated to be back for ODI World Cup. It has been 10 years since India last lifted a major ICC Trophy under Dhoni.

While India are consistently managing to reach the last four stages of the WC, it is the semi-final hurdle that they are unable to pass. There is no doubt that the team India will put good team for the WC with a mix of experienced and youth, however, how the players handle pressure situations will play a pivotal role in India lifting the WC for the third time.
