Rohit Sharma: Rohit not be Test Captain? BCCI to take a call after the West Indies series

After India’s 209-run hammering in WTC Final against Australia, there were a lot of rumors going around that Rohit has retired from Test cricket or quit captaincy. However, the right-hand batter has not made any official announcement about quitting captaincy or leaving Test cricket. India are due to play West Indies for two Test matches, three ODIs, and five T20Is.

The India skipper is likely to be captain for the Windies series, and after that, the BCCI are likely to take a call on his Test cricket depending on the runs he scores in the two Test matches.

“These are baseless stuff that Rohit will be removed from captaincy. Yes, whether he will last the whole two-year WTC cycle is a big question as he would be nearly 38 when the third edition ends in 2025,” a senior BCCI source in the know of things told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

If Rohit decides to take an extended break and skip the Windies series, then BCCI has to take a call on the captaincy. But as of now, Rohit remains the captain. “As of now, I believe that Shiv Sunder Das and his colleagues will have to take a call after the two Tests and looking at his batting form.”
