Roger Federer has taken the sporting world by storm with his decision to hang up his boots soon after the Laver Cup that is scheduled to be played from 23 to 25th September. Since then the sports fraternity has poured in their tributes to the Swiss legend, who is the winner of 20 Grand Slam titles.

Rafael Nadal, who has been Federer’s arch-rival over the last two decades also took to Twitter and penned an emotional note as a mark of tribute to the 41-year old. “Dear Roger,my friend and rival. I wish this day would have never come. It’s a sad day for me personally and for sports around the world. It’s been a pleasure but also an honor and privilege to share all these years with you, living so many amazing moments on and off the court,” he said.

Federer and Nadal’s face-off on the Tennis courts will remain as one of the greatest on-field rivalries in the history of the sport. Both the players have been involved in some of the best Tennis matches in the history and in order to celebrate their reverred rivalry, Real Madrid plans to host the epic contest, according to reports, that would probably see them facing each other for one last time.

Rafael Nadal, being a Spaniard himself, has been an avid supporter of Real Madrid. In his autobiography, he has revealed that he will wake up at any hour, wherever he is in the world, to watch Real Madrid games – regardless of his Tennis schedule. So if the club plans to host this big contest, it is likely that Nadal too would have already played a role in it and one can expect him to convince Federer to agree to the proposal as both the players share a great rapport off the field.

The Santiago Bernabeu Stadium is currently undergoing renovations and once the Stadium is fully ready, if they plan to organise this iconic Tennis event, then it is sure to draw a record number of spectators. However currently both Federer and Nadal will focus on the upcoming Laver Cup, where they will be seen in action playing together  for Team Europe. Along with Nadal and Federer, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray too will be playing for Team Europe and it marks the first time that the Laver Cup will see Tennis’ “Big Four” together.
