The two greats of the game despite having played numerous matches against each other, they have always been close friends off the court sharing a good rapport with each other. Posting an emotional tribute to his friend, Nadal called it a sad day for sports and tweeted, “Dear Roger, my friend and rival. I wish this day would have never come. It’s a sad day for me personally and for sports around the world. It’s been a pleasure but also an honor and privilege to share all these years with you, living so many amazing moments on and off the court.”
He further added, “We will have many more moments to share together in the future, there are still lots of things to do together, we know that. For now, I truly wish you all the happiness with your wife, Mirka, your kids, your family and enjoy what’s ahead of you. I’ll see you in London.”

While each of them share a great rivalry, Nadal and Federer matches against each other has a separate fanbase.
Both the players have faced each other 40 times in their career with Nadal leading the head-t0-head record 24-16. However, it was Federer who won seven of their last eight meetings. They last met at the semifinals in 2019 Wimbledon with Federer winning the contest in four sets.
Though fans across the world will not be able to see the on-field rivalry between both the players anymore, at the Laver Cup this year, both the players are set to play for Team Europe, where Nadal and Federer can be seen together for one last time. The Laver Cup begins next week at London. It will be played from 23rd to 25th September 2022.
