In a major worry for La Liga club Barcelona, their ace striker Robert Lewandowski could be sidelined for over a month with an injury. Lewandowski sprained his left ankle during Barcelona’s Champions League clash with FC Porto. The injury could see the former Bayern Munich striker miss out on this season’s first El Clasico against Real Madrid. The game between the two powerhouses of Spanish football is scheduled on 28th October.

Lewandowski was subbed off in the 34th minute of Barcelona’s UCL away game against FC Porto. Spaniard Ferran Torres replaced the Polish striker in the 34th minute. Lewandowski was seen applying icepack to his left ankle in the dugout.
Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez spoke about Lewandowski’s injury after the match.
“He has a knock, we will see if he recovers,” Xavi said.
However, Barcelona released a statement on Lewandowski’s injury on Thrusday, confirming a sprain.
“Tests conducted on Thursday morning have revealed that Robert Lewandowski has sprained his left ankle and will be out of action until the injury heals,” the statement read.
The Catalan club has provided no timeframe on Lewandowski’s return. Many reports claim the striker will be out of action for at least a month.
The injury news will come as a big disappointment for Barcelona, with a host of important games to look forward to this month. Barcelona next play Granada and Athletic Club in La Liga before welcoming Shakhtar Donetsk to Camp Nou for their 3rd Champions League group stage clash.
The Catalan club will then face arch rivals Real Madrid in season’s first El Clasico on October 28. Missing out on Lewandowski in this crucial tie will be a big blow for Barcelona.
