In an recent interview, Robert Lewandowski was asked about the rumour of Leo Messi coming back to Barcelona. He said, “I want to play with Messi here in Barcelona. He has changed his style in recent years. It is easier to play with players who understand football as deeply as he does. Messi’s playing style has evolved in recent years. He thinks differently, and positions himself differently on the pitch. He has a unique sense. We would definitely use it. Where will I put it on the pitch? You’ll have to ask Xavi about that.”
Lionel Messi left Barcelona in 2021 following a financial issue that the club could not resolve. Which forced the player to leave and he joined PSG for 2 years. He has won one Ligue 1 and one French Super Cup title with PSG. His contract ends this year and he will not be continuing with the club further. He will have many options open for him after PSG. However, there is a great chance that he could come back to Barcelona as they are trying to bring the player back to his childhood club.
However, Barcelona still need to sort out a lot of problems to bring over Leo Messi. Most importantly, they will have to cut down their wage bill significantly to not trigger Financial Fair Pay rules. For that, they are ready to sell a lot of players this summer window. As they are ready to take on the Champions League with new determination next season, they are also planning on bringing over many important players. Leo Messi will be the most important target among them.

Robert Lewandowski joined Barcelona in 2022 from Bayern Munich, 1 year after Leo Messi left the club. In this one season at Barcelona, he is leading the race for Pichichi with the most goals in La Liga. He has also helped Barcelona win the Super Cup and the La Liga title this year. His transformation from Bayern Munich to Barcelona was not easy. However, Barcelona are starting to trace back their foothold in domestic and European competitions. With the club, Lewandowski is also improving exponentially.
Both Messi and Lewandowski have crossed the threshold of 30 years of age. However, as few of this generation’s greatest footballers, both of them are not showing any signs of declining form. Robert Lewandowski is an out-and-out striker, while Lionel Messi can easily fall back and dictate the game from midfield to create the perfect chance. Messi can do this outside of scoring amazing goals. Hence, if Leo Messi’s transfer happens, a partnership between these two could turn out to be deadly.
