The flyweight and featherweight tournament opening rounds, as well as two scheduled non-tournament fights, were all set for the first day. A few fighters that competed in the event in previous seasons returned. for instance, the Season 1 winner Yi Zha and Seung Guk Choi, as well as the Thai entertainer Topnoi Kiwram.

India had a lot of expectations from the two MMA Indian fighters to try and make their position in UFC. With the intention of chasing the UFC contract, Rudra Pratap Singh tried his best to replicate the path that his compatriot Anshul Jubli laid out, winning a UFC contract. The 26-year-old fighter has built a spectacular record in professional MMA after finishing 11 fights so far and has 10 first-round finishes under his belt.

Sumit Kumar and Rana Rudra Pratap Singh, two young men from Uttar Pradesh, represented the nation in separate trips to the Octagon.

In the flyweight division, Sumit (7-0-0) began his campaign against South Korean Seung Guk Choi, a Road to UFC competitor from the previous year. The 22-year-old Sumit’s seven-match winning streak was being investigated for possible record-padding, though. Sumit’s record is still questionable, but his apparent skills have earned him a trip to China after being noticed by UFC president Dana White.

But when the results were announced at the end, it wasn’t much desirable SeungGok Choi, a finalist from the previous season, started the Road to UFC on Saturday by winning over Sumit Kumar and moving on to the semifinals.

Despite Kumar’s tenacious chase and desire to grapple, Choi’s technical advantages and experience edge proved to be too great for the Indian fighter to overcome. In the third and final round, Choi truly demonstrated his advantages over the aggressive yet inexperienced Kumar by remaining patient, scrambling well, and picking his locations.

Rana, who competed against South Korean Chang Ho Lee in the bantamweight division, has an 11-1 record and has fought primarily against opponents from India. He developed his fighting techniques in the Lucknow suburbs.

Regrettably, in Shanghai’s preliminary round, Rana Rudra Pratap Singh and Sumit Kumar’s Indian squad lost in their respective weight division battles. Kumar lost a flyweight battle by decision, and Singh lost a bantamweight match by way of a stoppage. Both of the Indian MMA contenders were defeated by the South Korean opponents.
