Rishabh Pant vs Harsha: Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was in no mood to catch any criticism on his white-ball cricket form on Wednesday. Before the final ODI of the three-match India vs NewZealand series, Pant made a supposedly egotistical remark that quickly went viral on social media. When asked about his “poor form” in the white ball series by sports commentator Harsha Bhogle in Christchurch, Rishabh responded that he was “doing good” in this format of play as well. Notably, Sanju Samson is being continuously overlooked for Rishabh Pant by the team management and captain in white-ball cricket. Follow Indian Cricket News on InsideSport.IN

Before the third One-Day International against New Zealand began, Pant stated that he is only 25 and that comparing his white-ball and red-ball statistics should only be done when he is around 30-32 because there is “no logic” in doing so at this time.

“I’d want to open in T20s, No. 4-5 in ODIs and Tests I’m already batting at No. 5,” Pant told Harsha Bhogle on Prime Video.

Bhogle went on to ask indirectly why Pant’s Test numbers looked the best when he came across more as a white-ball player.

“Record is just a number, my white-ball record is not bad either,” Pant replied. When Bhogle said he was merely comparing Pant’s Test and white-ball records, Pant said, “Comparison is not a part of my life, I’m just 24-25 so you can compare once I’m 30-32. There’s no logic in comparing before that.”

Harsha Bhogle: Maine Viru se bohut saal pahle ye sawal poocha tha, ab apse puch raha hu. Aapko dekhke lagta hai, white-ball game inki khaas baat hogi but aapka Test record sabse accha hai. (I had asked the same question to Sehwag, now I’ll ask you. Looking at you, we get the feeling that white-ball cricket is your USP but it’s your Test record that is better…)

Rishabh Pant: “Sir, record toh ek number hai. Mera white-ball record bhi kharab nahi hai. Thik hai T20 ka… (Sir, records are just numbers. My white-ball record is not bad either…)”

Harsha Bhogle (interrupting): “Main kharab nahi kar raha hu, comparison kar raha hu. (I’m not saying it’s bad, I’m comparing it with the Test numbers)”

Rishabh Pant: “Comparison karna toh sir apne life ka part hi nahi hai na. Abhi main 24-25 years ka hu, comparison karna hai toh jab main 30-32 ka ho jayunga tab karna, usse pahle toh koi logic nahi hai mere liye. (Doing comparisons is not a part of my life. I’m 24-25, if you want to compare, you can do that when I am 30-32).”

This didn’t sit well with many cricket fans, who perceived his attitude as haughty and even asserted that he is unquestionably “not the captain in making.”

A few incensed fans continued by saying that the batter should return to domestic cricket to improve his “terrible attitude.”

Pant made his international debut for India in T20Is in February 2017, in Tests in August 2018, and in ODIs in October. Although he appears to be a natural white-ball batter due to his penchant for playing unconventional shots, particularly in T20s. But currently, he is more of a certainty in India’s Test XI than in ODIs or T20Is.
