Rishabh Pant Injury: Pant fails to score big, K Srikkanth asks the batter to be given a break – 10, 15, 125, 0, 56, & 18 are the scores Pant has registered in the last five ODIs. While his ODI numbers are marginally better in T20Is, it is the consistency that he has lacked. Overall, in 12 ODIs in 2022, the southpaw has scored 223 runs. In between one few big scores, there is a lean patch and a needless shot that makes experts and fans frustrated. In the first, & second ODIs against New Zealand, Pant played an unnecessary pull shot after doing all the hard work to reach 15, & 10 runs respectively.
Srikkanth feels with Sanju Samson waiting in the wings Pant should be given a break in the white-ball formats. “Maybe you can give him (Pant) a break and tell him ‘just wait a bit, come and play in India’, they haven’t handled him well. Are you going to wait for a couple of matches before giving him a break or remove him after one or two games?” Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.
IND vs BAN: Will Pant recover in time before Bangladesh series, batter only has 3 ODIs to prove his form in ODI cricket
With the Chetan Sharma-led selection panel sacked, BCCI are set to hire a new selection committee by end of 2022. But the question is whether Pant will be fit. Apart from Pant, only Ishan Kishan is the other designated wicketkeeper batter for Bangladesh tour.
· The new set of selectors maybe won’t back Pant due to his struggles in ODI cricket.
· Hence these four ODIs will now be a huge test for Pant to see whether he fits in the 50-over format ahead of World Cup 2023.
· India will play three ODIs in Bangladesh before the new selection committee is announced.
· With only 21 matches left for the World Cup, the selectors might place a bet on Samson and try to give him ample opportunities before the showpiece event.
