Respite for David Warner off the field, wins legal battle for large payday

David Warner first filed a case with Spartan Sports in 2022. After a year, the southpaw finally got his settlement ahead of second Ashes Test.

David Warner: Ashes 2023 – Ahead of the second Ashes Test, Australia opening batter David Warner received some positive news as he won a legal battle with one of his former bat sponsors Spartan Sports. The Southpaw got a settlement worth $420,000. According to reports, the 36-year-old sued Spartan Sports Beaches-based company over unpaid sponsorship fees.

Last week, Warner got his dues and was awarded $422,727 in Sydney District Court in his lawsuit. According to reports in Daily Mail, the two companies used to run Spartan Sports namely, Spartan Sports Corporation and SS Management (Australia), were instructed by Judge Matthew Dicker to pay the Australian opener $382,940 as the base price claimed by him.

Not only that but an extra amount of $39,786 was also paid in interest that has been adding up since Warner first sued the company in 2022. Spartan joined a multi-year deal with the southpaw in 2018, but things have not been great as Spartan failed to live up to the promise.

“Spartan still hasn‘t paid us. We decided with David to go after them in court. The next stage if they don’t pay the money is putting Spartan under,” Warner’s manager James Erskine was quoted as saying by News Corp.

David Warner: Warner also suing Spartan Sports representative Ben Carberry

Not only Spartan, but Warner is also suing Ben Carberry, who acted as representative for Spartan Sports for the negotiations separately. Carberry is yet to file a case in defence and also failed to be present in court last week. Following legal issues with Spartan Sports, Warner has currently switched to DSC brand in 2021.

Not only Warner but legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar also sued the company for failing to pay him royalties for using his image and logo for promotional services. Sachin won the legal battle, with SS paying him 3.1 million. Speaking about Warner, the southpaw would be itching to get back to runs-scoring ways in the second Ashes Test at Lord’s after scoring nine and 36 runs at Edgbaston.
