RCB vs MI Highlights: Harshal Patel hat-trick, Chahal and Maxwell help RCB beat Mumbai Indians by 54 runs

RCB vs MI Highlights – IPL 2021: MI captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first at Dubai International Stadium as the pitch gets easier to bat on as the match goes. While RCB were dealt an early blow with Devdutt Padikkal falling in the second over, Virat Kohli and KS Bharat steadied the ship with a crucial 68-run partnership. When Bharat fell for 32 off 25, Virat Kohli continued with a fine consecutive half-century, en route his 10,000 T20 runs, and stitched together yet another 51-run stand with Glenn Maxwell.

The Australian brought up his famed switch hits to crush the Mumbai bowling attack. Glenn Maxwell scored his third fifty of the season off just 33 balls which included three sixes before Jasprit Bumrah removed the dangerous-looking batsman for 56 off 35. AB de Villiers followed suit soon as Bumrah got two in two.

RCB vs MI Highlights in IPL 2021: Although Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult combined in the death overs to just give away nine runs in the last two overs, Maxwell’s knock ensured RCB had a competitive total of 165/6.

RCB vs MI Highlights in IPL 2021: Match stats and facts

  • Virat Kohli completed 10,000 T20 runs to become first Indian batsman to do so.
  • Mumbai Indians’ 111 was the lowest-ever score against RCB.
  • Harshal Patel became the third RCB bowler to get a hat-trick after Samuel Badree (vs MI in 2017) and Praveen Kumar (vs RR in 2010).
  • Harshal Patel’s 4/17 in 3.1 overs in one of the best from an RCB bowler.
  • In two matches of IPL 2021, Harshal Patel scalped 9 wickets against Mumbai Indians.
  • For the first time in IPL history, one bowler has bagged five wickets and a hat-trick against the same opponent.
  • Purple Cap leader Harshal Patel is now the joint highest uncapped wicket-taker with 23 scalps. Yuzvendra Chahal managed 23 in 2015.
  • RCB completed a double over Mumbai Indians in a season for the first time in IPL history.
  • This is also the first time that RCB have bowled out Mumbai Indians in 14 editions.

During the chase, Mumbai Indians were off to a flying start, adding 57 runs for the opening wicket with Rohit Sharma hammering from one end and Quinton de Kock holding from the other.

RCB vs MI Highlights in IPL 2021: But Yuzvendra Chahal brought his A-game, getting rid of de Kock and that triggered a collapse. As Rohit Sharma too departed at 79/1, the famed Mumbai middle-order collapsed like a house of cards. Chahal ended up with 2/11 in his four overs as Mumbai struggled.

Harshal Patel (4/17) starred with the ball for RCB as the 30-year-old dismissed Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard and Rahul Chahar on three consecutive deliveries to bag the first hat-trick of his career in the 17th over to turn the tide in favour of Virat Kohli-led side.

RCB vs MI Highlights in IPL 2021: For RCB, Glen Maxwell was another hero in the match as after scoring a half-century (56), the Australian followed it by scalping two crucial wickets with the ball in hand. RCB skipper Virat Kohli also scored a half-century in the match.

In the end, Mumbai Indians folded for just 111 runs, falling 54 runs short of their target as Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan all failed to deliver with the bat.

“Very happy and especially the way we won. It was a difficult start with the loss of Devdutt Padikkal in the second over. The way Jasprit [Bumrah] bowled that over, totally set the game up for MI. It was important from thereon for us to stamp our presence in the game and take a little bit of risk. I got off to a good start and KS Bharat took the pressure off me, Maxwell’s innings was unbelievable as well. I thought we got par, 166 is par here, still felt like 10-15 more with the way we bowled. 8 for 30 was unbelievable against such a strong batting lineup,” Virat Kohli said after the match.

Important to focus on the game in hand and keep ticking those small boxes. He (Hardik) is very passionate about the game and passionate about his comeback, from a team’s perspective it’s a great boost for us. Just one change. Hardik is back and Saurabh Tiwary is out.”

Royal Challengers Banglore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli said: “Would have bowled first as well, don’t think the track will change much. We had a team chat together and we haven’t been outplayed and made some mistakes ourselves. When the crunch moment arrives, you have to back yourself and that’s been the chat to play expressive cricket. It’s about executing them with courage. They are one of the strongest sides in the IPL and are a very difficult side to play against and want to match the intensity and belief. We will have to be at the top of our game tonight. Saini, Hasaranga and Tim David are out. Shahbaz, Dan Christian and Jamieson are in.”
