RB Leipzig beat Manchester City: Manchester City was defeated by a much energetic RB Leipzig side, the Germans took the lead through Hungary international Dominik Szoboszlai, who scored in 24th minute to give the hosts the lead. The 2nd goal was scored Portugal international Andre Silva to put the hosts in a comfortable 2-0 lead, Manchester City tried to rescue the game late in the second half after Riyad Mahrez’s header gave city a little glimmer of hope but everything went downhill after Kyle Walker’s red card.

Manchester City travelled to Leipzig having already confirmed top spot in their group ahead of PSG, but little went to plan on the night as a strong team selection backfired in a 2-1 defeat. A bad night was made worse by Walker being shown a straight red card for needlessly kicking out at Andre Silva minutes after the striker had scored his side’s second goal.

Goaalll 24’ RB Leipzig 1-0 Man City: (Szoboszlai)

Leipzig take the lead in the simplest of fashion! Szoboszlai is sent clear down the middle with a lovely outside-of-the-boot pass from deep by Laimer. He rounds Steffen to the left, before rolling into the empty net. So simple, but a lovely goal nonetheless.

Goaalll 71’ RB Leipzig 2-0 Man City: (Silva)

John Stones is caught napping in possession. Forsburg romps down the left, reaches the City box, and rolls across for Silva, who takes a touch and fizzes a belter into the bottom right, Steffen left with no chance. A crisp counter, and what a finish for the Portuguese!

Goaalll 76’ RB Leipzig 2-1 Man City: (Mahrez)

After being denied a clear penalty Zinchenko attacks the hosts down the leftwing and puts in a deep cross. Mahrez stoops at the far post and steers a fine header into the bottom right. Despite being leggy the whole game City aren’t giving this up, even though it makes little difference to them.

Red Card 82’: Kyle Walker sent-off:

The Englishman seems to have lost it! Kyle Walker takes a ludicrous wild swipe at the back of Andre Silva’s legs. Silva springs up in anger and the pair go nose to nose. The referee calms everyone down, then gives Walker his marching orders. What a preposterously daft thing to do. He’ll now miss the first knockout game.
