India Squad NZ Series – Ravindra Jadeja Fitness Test: India’s ace all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is all set to return to Team India. He has returned to National Cricket Academy for a fitness test. He will undergo the mandatory Yo-Yo test and the newly mandated DEXA test. If everything goes well, Jadeja will return for the India vs NewZealand ODI series. Jadeja is still recovering from knee surgery. Follow IND vs NZ LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.

“Jadeja is doing better. He is at the NCA for the fitness tests. Once he clears the tests and injury assessment, he will get clearance from the NCA. If he is available for selection, he should return for the New Zealand series,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

Jadeja has been out since the Asia Cup 2022. He suffered a freak injury in exercise and returned to Mumbai for immediate knee surgery. However, following the surgery, he is still recovering. He was not fit for the Bangladesh and SriLanka series. As the Indian board did not want to rush his return and risk aggravating his injury, he was asked to complete rehab.

As things stand, Jadeja is nearing the completion of his rehab. He will undergo fitness assessment at the NCA under physio Nitin Patel. Once he gets clearance from the NCA, he will be eligible for selection.

“Everyone has to get clearance from the NCA to be available for selection. BCCI’s own medical team will decide whether the player is fit enough. Jadeja is doing fine now. We did not want to risk him earlier as he was not yet at 100%,” the BCCI official said.

Meanwhile, the BCCI New Selection Committee will have its first meeting on Monday or Tuesday. The primary agenda is to select the squad for NewZealand ODI and T20 series. Chetan Sharma & Co will also have to take a big call on Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid. BCCI has set a plan to rest and rotate the seniors for ODI and Test series.

Selectors will also have a call with NCA director VVS Laxman on injury update of Ravindra Jadeja. If Jadeja gets the green signal from NCA, he will be picked for the ODI series against NewZealand. However, it is unlikely that Jadeja will be part of the ODI series.

IND NZ Selection Meeting:

  • Selectors will have a call with NCA chief VVS Laxman on Ravindra Jadeja’s injury.
  • Jadeja is set to return if he gets the green signal from NCA.
  • Selectors will pick the ODI and T20 squad for NewZealand series starting January 18.
  • Selectors will discuss whether Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should play T20s.
  • It is unlikely that any senior player will be considered for the T20 series against NZ.
