Rajinikanth lashes out Sunrisers Hyderabad, says ‘Feel bad for Kavya Maran like…’

Over the past few IPL seasons, Sunrisers Hyderabad has faced significant challenges and disappointing results.

Legendary actor Rajinikanth shared his views on Indian Premier League franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad during the audio launch of his upcoming movie ‘Jailer’. The superstar expressed concern over the CEO of SRH, Kavya Maran’s, visible rollercoaster of emotions while witnessing her team’s losses during IPL matches. Rajinikanth also advised Kavya’s father, Kalanithi Maran, to consider recruiting better players to enhance the team’s performance.

“Kalanithi Maran [Father of Kavya Maran] should put good players in Sunrisers Hyderabad team. I feel bad seeing Kavya like that on TV during the IPL,” Rajinikanth said.

Over the past few IPL seasons, Sunrisers Hyderabad has faced significant challenges and disappointing results. Their performance in IPL 2023 was particularly disheartening, finishing at the bottom of the table with just four wins from 14 matches under the captaincy of Aiden Markram.

Despite having prominent players in their squad, SRH lacked the required firepower to compete with other teams. The constant changes in personnel, including the release of David Warner and Kane Williamson, as well as not retaining Jonny Bairstow and Rashid Khan, further compounded their struggles. Under Kavya Maran, the team’s performance has been a cause for concern, with her passionate expressions at the auction table and in the stands reflecting the team’s challenging journey.

In recent years, SRH has experienced a rough patch, with consecutive bottom-of-the-table finishes in the 2021 and 2023 seasons and a relatively lowly eighth-place finish in 2022. Despite altering their captaincy, the team failed to witness any significant improvement in their on-field results.

The franchise’s puzzling approach in handling their players, evident from the decisions to release Warner and Williamson, has raised questions about their strategic planning. Even with Aiden Markram leading the side in the latest season, SRH couldn’t turn their fortunes around, leaving fans and management alike seeking ways to rejuvenate the team’s performance.
