“I will be honoured to lead Lahore Qalandars if I am offered the captaincy role. I have always tried to give my best for the team and I will continue to do so. The workload is not an issue for me as I have trained very hard to keep myself fit. The staff has been extremely helpful and I am enjoying every minute of cricket across all three formats,” Afridi said as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.

Lahore Qalandars are reportedly in search of a new face to lead the PSL franchise. Shaheen Afridi is a strong contender for the job. They had finished second-last (fifth) in the last edition of the Pakistan Super League. They have appointed as many as 7 different captains across 6 seasons. Sohail Akhtar led them during the PSL 2021. The franchise’s best performance came under Fakhar Zaman who led to the finals of PSL 2019.

At just 21-years-old, Shaheen has experience playing 103 T20Is. He has taken 139 scalps at an excellent economy rate of 7.74 rpo. Besides T20s, the youngster has already appeared for Pakistan for 20 Tests, 28 ODIs and 37 T20Is. He has played 37 games for Lahore Qalandars and taken 50 wickets.

The upcoming seventh edition of the PSL is likely to take place during the end of January. Lahore and Karachi are likely to host the competition and PCB will finalise all the matters within a few days. PC chief Ramiz Raja has issued directives for arrangements for the event. The player’s draft is expected to be held in mid-December in Lahore.
