Cristiano Ronaldo will start and captain the Riyadh All-Stars. His strike partner will reportedly be Al Hilal’s Odion Igahlo, a former Manchester United forward. Surprisingly, David Ospina starts in goal despite supposedly only having surgery a few days before. Lionel Messi, as well as Neymar and Kylian Mbappe of PSG, make their debuts. Keylor Navas starts in goal, and Sergio Ramos starts alongside Achraf Hakimi at the back. Marquinhos takes the field and will captain the team.

Messi, who returned to PSG after winning the World Cup with Argentina, scored the game’s first goal before Ronaldo equalised for the Saudi select squad, which included players from Al Nassr and Riyadh rivals Al Hilal, with a well-struck penalty. During a chaotic first-half finish, PSG defender Juan Bernat was sent off, Marquinhos put the French champions ahead 2-1, Neymar missed a penalty, and Ronaldo scored his second goal of the game after his header rebounded off the post.

Both Ronaldo and Messi were taken off after 60 minutes, but they stayed long enough to see Ramos put PSG up 3-2, Saudi select defender Jang Hyun-Soo equalise, and Kylian Mbappe score a penalty to make it 4-3. PSG’s substitute Hugo Ekitike scored again, and Anderson Talisca added a late consolation as the game ended 5-4.

PSG, dressed in a new black and gold kit, got off to a flying start, taking the lead in the third minute due to a clever finish by Messi. When Neymar played him through on goal, Messi was able to poke the ball past goalkeeper Mohamed Al-Owais, whom he last faced in Saudi Arabia’s shock World Cup victory against Argentina in November. Despite falling behind early on, the Riyadh Season Team had multiple opportunities.

Ronaldo was a constant menace and earned a penalty when goalkeeper Keylor Navas collided with him. Ronaldo, who had a huge red bruise on his cheek as a result of the impact, lifted himself up to calmly convert the penalty kick and tie the game.

Bernat was sent off shortly after the equaliser, but the Ligue 1 club rallied brilliantly by scoring through defender Marquinhos. Their lead would not last long, however Ronaldo levelled the game just before halftime, slamming home a rebound after Sergio Ramos missed a simple clearance.

After the halftime, Ramos turned in a Mbappe cross before Jang responded with a near-post header from a corner to tie the game at 3-3. A handball by Ali Al-Bulaihi earned the visitors a penalties, which Mbappe brilliantly converted on the hour. It was Mbappe’s final contribution before being substituted along with teammates Messi and Neymar, as well as Ronaldo. Following a lung-busting run from the halfway line, Ekitike extended PSG’s lead to 5-3 before Anderson Talisca’s goal for the Saudis in added time.
