In a club statement, Tottenham said, “The Club can today announce that Nuno Espírito Santo and his coaching staff Ian Cathro, Rui Barbosa and Antonio Dias have been relieved of their duties.”

Fabio Paratici, Managing Director, Football, said: “I know how much Nuno and his coaching staff wanted to succeed and I regret that we have had to take this decision. “Nuno is a true gentleman and will always be welcome here. We should like to thank him and his coaching staff and wish them well for the future.” A further coaching update will follow in due course.

As per reports, Antonio Conte is the leading man for the job, with the Italian currently a free agent having left Inter Milan in the summer. Conte is a proven winner had lifted the Serie A title with the Nerazzurri, and has PL experience, leading Chelsea to the Premier League in 2015. Conte was also a target for Tottenham in the summer only for talks to break down.

In the summer, a lot of noise was made when Harry Kane publicly asked to leave, Kane claimed that the club wasn’t meeting his expectations and that he and Daniel Levy have a gentleman’s (verbal) agreement, which would allow him to leave for a certain transfer fee, insisting that what he said wasn’t fallacious, The England captain did everything in his will to force a move out of London, he missed the 1st 2 weeks of training.

After Kane’s move to Manchester City failed to materialize, many rifts between the player and the board ended and Tottenham was finally able to keep the England captain in North London.

In order to build a better team around Harry Kane, Tottenham brought in much-needed players like Cristian Romero*, Emerson Royal, Bryan Gil and Pierluigi Gollini* which could give Nuno a platform to build a competitive team. (* means players on loan).

Premier League: Tottenham Hotspur Chairman Daniel Levy considers sacking 1st team manager Nuno Espirito Santo: According to reports from various reliable sources, Tottenham Hotspur board of directors have had a meeting, after the Man United game in which both Chairperson Daniel Levy and Sporting Director Fabio Paratici were present. The meeting’s significant talking points included that if Nuno is the right man to take the club forward, and if not, then finding a right fit for the Spurs job.

Antonio Conte, who has been strongly linked to Manchester United in the past month has always been the top of Fabio Paratici’s list since last summer, when the Lillywhites ended the season with Ryan Mason as the interim coach. Talks between the club and the Italian mangers stalled in the summer due to the 52-year-old’s exorbitant salary demands and him wanting a long-list of high-profile signings to rejuvenate the club.
