Premier League: Latest data released by the Premier League has shown that 16 per cent of top-flight stars are yet to take any dose of Covid-19 vaccine. The top-flight confirmed that 84 per cent of players have had at least one dose of the vaccine. These figures pale in comparison to those shared by top leagues across Europe. The new Omicron strain of the COVID-19 is continuing to wreak havoc with the latest test results revealing that there have been 90 new Covid-19 cases after a record 12,345 tests were carried out on top-flight players and staff. Lateral flow tests are now taken daily by those wanting to enter a club’s training ground – with RT-PCR tests carried out twice a week.

The Premier League have revealed that in a bid to maintain transparency they will publish vaccination results at the end of each month starting from January.
On Monday, the Premier League announced that a ‘festive firebreak’ would not be imposed to help combat the spread of the Omicron variant, and matches will go on. Senior club representatives met with league officials to try and find a way forward and discuss a temporary halt.

However, despite a number of managers voicing their belief that a break should be enforced, the majority of clubs have rejected the idea, backing the league’s position.
