Imane ‘Pokimane’ Anys has apologized after growing backlash on her Twitch channel earlier this week. Now the streamer claims it was just a “harmless joke” and apologizes about the women in the kitchen joke. Pokimane Women in kitchen, Pokimane, Twitch, Twitch Controversy, Pokimane apologizes

Streamer Pokimane was criticized last week on Twitch after joking that “all women should be in the kitchen” during a stream.

In an attempt to make fun of a joke, the Moroccan-Canadian made a controversial take on December 7, when in response to a question asking if girls should still “cook and clean” in relationships.

“All women should be in the kitchen,” she said laughingly.

She thought the joke was over until viewers began asking her if she was serious during her Twitch streams in the following days. Nearly every stream since then has included viewers asking if she was serious.

Pokimane moved to properly banish any claims she believes “women belong in the kitchen” eight days later by officially apologizing on December 14.

Her Twitch chat was filled with comments regarding the “kitchen” joke for days before she decided to address it – a response she was shocked she ever felt the need to share.

In response to a fan who asked if she believed the claim, Pokimane replied sarcastically. “I mean, a few reasons, I guess,” she added, jokingly building on her response. “I like food, so I’m in the kitchen a lot.” Secondly, I don’t make the rules, I just repeat them sometimes.

With a sly smile, the Twitch star jokingly concluded, “I think girls look pretty in aprons. So why wouldn’t we want them in the kitchen?”

It was impossible for her to keep the facade up, however, as she burst out into laughter. She responded more seriously, apologizing to anyone who felt offended by her comment. She also pointed out that she “obviously never meant” her remarks.

“That was a f**king joke, dudes,” she said.

“I feel like the worst thing in the world is having to explain a joke,” said Pokimane. “Really, guys, don’t worry about it. I’m not sexist, by the way. I bet you fifty bucks I’m not.

“Me supporting other female streamers and always talking about gendered issues, oh no, that’s the front. My one kitchen joke, for sure means I’m sexist.”

The incident is not Pokimane’s first brush with her Twitch fans this week, after she told a joke about child-stealing on December 12.

Twitch’s top stream-queen joked: “You want to know how I know I’m a woman in her 20s? When I’m walking out, and I see a kid, I look at them. “They look damn cute. And when I look at their parents, they’re not looking, which makes me think: it’d be so easy to steal their child.”
