InsideSport has learnt that 10-12 members of the Star Sports Production team & some of the members of Mashal Sports are down with Covid.

“Yes, some of the production team members are down with Covid. See, everyone has taken best of the care but Covid somehow has breached the bubble & it is little scary”, informed one of the Star Sports Broadcast team member. 

Situation now is such that the broadcaster is struggling to cover LIVE games as number of the affected people are increasing by the day.

Not only the organizing team but some of the team are also seeing the Covid-19 positive cases in their respective camps. The PKL release itself admitted that few of the teams are not able to field teams due to Covid cases & that is the reason on Tuesday PKL schedule was rejigged.

“After the successful completion of the first half of the league stage of the ongoing season of Pro Kabaddi, two of the 12 PKL Teams have found it difficult to field the requisite number of 12 players for their respective matches due to some players in these teams testing positive for Covid-19,” read an official statement.

“The health of the players continues to be the top priority for Mashal Sports. The affected players have been timely isolated as part of the safety protocols. To ensure the continuity of matches in the present environment, Mashal Sports together with all PKL Teams, have proactively rescheduled some of the matches and will continue to review the situation,” it added.

PKL 8 Pro KabaddiCovid-19 breches Star Sports PKL Defence: Some of the members of the teams have informed InsideSport that everyday new cases are coming-up. One of the member of the team down South informed InsideSport that atleast 4 teams at this stage have reported multiple cases in their team.

“Once Covid has been reported in one of the team it was obvious that others will get affected. 4 teams are affected at this stage. But things are still manageable. I think the season will move ahead as usual”, said one of the team member of PKL Team.

Covid-19 HITS Indian Sports: Many Sports events getting affected by the day

AFC Asian Women Cup, Indian Super League, I-League, Indian Open Badminton, Ranji Trophy & various other events have been affected due to Covid-19 in India. 

Cricket: The Indian squad at the Under-19 World Cup in the West Indies was hit by Covid-19 last week, with five players testing positive. Four Zimbabwe players and two from the West Indies team, too, had tested positive.

Badminton: The men’s singles finals of the Syed Modi International Super300 event in Lucknow on Sunday was called off after one of the finalist tested positive. A total of 32 matches witnessed walkovers / no matches in the tournament.

Last week, the India Open had started with seven positives amongst Indians, including Kidambi Srikanth who was staying at the official hotel.

AFC Asia Women Cup – Football: Ahead of India’s first match of the women’s Asian Cup, two Covid-19 cases were reported within the group. Before the second game on Sunday, a total of 12 players were down with the virus along with four support staff. India has withdrawan from the tournament.

ISL 2022 Season 7: Already ISL Schedule has suffered due to multiple Covid-19 cases in various teams. More than 10 matches till date have been postponed.
