Pakistan had appointed Inzamam ul Haq as their men’s chief selector right before the start of the Asia Cup. In a major development, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have appointed former team skipper Inzamam ul Haq as their chief selector, who is now set to play a vital role in selecting the men’s team for the upcoming Asia Cup and the ICC World Cup 2023.
The PCB took to social media to announce its decision on social media. The former Pakistan skipper initially held the post of chief selector of the Pakistan team back in 2016 when he left his job of coaching the Afghanistan cricket team.

Inzamam had a good run in his first stint where Pakistan went on to beat India to win the Champions Trophy back in 2017. There is however quite an uncertainty regarding the extension of stints for Mickey Arthur and Grant Bradburn.
“It is an honour for me to be appointed as the chairperson of the national men’s selection committee. I am thankful to Mr Zaka Ashraf for offering me this post. It is wonderful to see the chairman is involving former players in the cricketing matters. I have worked previously in this role and I am eager to work in it once again,” said Inzamam ul Haq.
“I had a good run in the last tenure. We had famous victories with the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 being the highlight, but my most important achievement is that around 70 to 80 per cent of the cricketers – selected back then – form the core of today’s sides. That team was in transition, but this team is stable and I would not face the same challenges,” he added.
There will be high hopes for Inzamam after his first stint from 2016 to 2019. But it won’t be an easy job for the former Pakistani skipper at this point in time. One of the first things that he needs to sort out is the selection of the Pakistan Cricket Squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023.
Following the Asia Cup, another massive job that will befall Inzamam would be the selection of the squad for the World Cup. With the ICC deadline being set for 29th August with a week buffer till 5th September, Inzamam now has a very short period of time to plan and select the team accordingly for the upcoming major tournaments.
The Asia Cup 2023 is scheduled to commence from 22nd August while the ICC World Cup will start from the 5th of October in India.
