Opening the batting on his RCB debut, Faf du Plessis struggled to get going as he stuttered to just 21 off 33 balls as Punjab Kings had the brakes on. However, Du Plessis, who received a reprieve on 7, showcased his class and turned it around to go on a rampage and push RCB towards a huge total.
The former CSK star was particularly harsh of Harpreet Brar and Odean Smith and got off to his fifty in 41 deliveries, and continued to go big in a partnership of over a 100 with ex-captain Virat Kohli. Du Plessis pressed on and was eventually dismissed for 88, having RCB in a good position to go past the 200-run mark. In the process, the South African veteran went past 3000 IPL runs, and his 88-run knock was the fourth-highest score by an IPL captain on debut.
