Para Archery World Ranking Event: India para archers are a dejected lot as they have been denied visa for the Para Archery World Ranking Event and the European Cup (first leg) in the Czech Republic. They were originally scheduled to travel on July 2 for the competition. But when they gradually came to know about the visa being denied, they started to leave for their respective home in batches on Saturday night and Sunday morning. The para-archers have been training for the competition in the team camp from June 6. All their hard work during training will now count for nothing as they have left the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium as well.

“We were in the camp from June 6. We were supposed to travel on July 2. The competition was from July 3. Till the last day we were being told that we will get our visa, but then, it did not happen at all. Some of the archers were at the stadium last night also. Late night, some moved for their home, and some in the morning,” one of the 22-member squad members told InsideSport.

“The coaches said that they tried their best at the Embassy, but they were denied. We have not been given the exact reason for visa rejection. All the archers are very disappointed. We will not be able to participate.”
Why was this event even more important? This comes as huge set back for the team. The Asian Championship was also cancelled and this was supposed to be the last tournament for them to showcase their skills this season. “Actually, this was a very important tournament. We have not featured in many competitions. Also, at the same country (Czech Republic) and the same venue, there is a World Championship for us next year, ” he added.
