Shaheen Shah Afridi bowled perfectly at the death as Pakistan defeated West Indies by 9 runs in the second T20I.
Chasing 173, West Indies lost Shai Hope (1) and Shamarh Brooks (10) with just 31 runs on the board. Brandon King and skipper Nicholas Pooran then got together at the crease to retrieve the innings for the visitors. Both batters put on 54 runs for the third wicket before Pooran (26) was scalped by Mohammad Nawaz with Windies needing 88 runs to win from 54 balls.
Brandon King finally departed in the 16th over after playing a knock of 67 and West Indies was left in a spot of bother, needing 55 to win from 28 balls. The visitors kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and in the end, Pakistan registered a win.

Earlier, just like 1st T20I yesterday, Pakistan lost Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman early on inside the powerplay. While Babar Azam got run out, Fakhar Zaman was stumped by Nicholas Pooran off Akeal Hossein’s delivery. Akeal Hossein bowled another impressive spell today as he finished for 16-1 in his quota of 4 overs.
But it was against the pair of M Rizwan and Haider Ali who steadied the innings. The duo stitched 105-run for third wickets yesterday and resurrected the innings with 48-run partnership before Odean Smith removed M Rizwan to provide the much-needed breakthrough in the 12th over. Since then, there was no looking back for West Indies who were much improved with the ball as well as in the field.
Haider Ali and M Nawaz couldn’t make much difference and departed at the scores of 31 and 1 as West Indies took complete control of the match with Pakistan score reading 127/6 in the 17th over.
Iftikhar Ahmed (32 off 19) and Shadab Khan (28* off 12), however, made sure the hosts get to a competitive total. Pakistan added 59 runs in the last 5 overs and managed to post 172/8. Odean Smith returned as the best pick of the bowlers for West Indies with the figures of 2-24.

The visitors clearly missed the experience of their senior players in the opening game, especially in the batting. On a surface that suits big scores, the Windies were slightly ahead till the powerplay despite losing an extra wicket in comparison to Babar Azam & Co. However, by the halfway mark they had lost half of their side, and then there was no looking back for the home side.
Already depleted with the non-availability of senior players and three Covid-19 cases, the visitors handed over debut to Dominic Drakes and Shamarh Brooks. With not many options available, the Men in Maroon are likely to feature the same with some quick learnings as said by skipper Nicholas Pooran post-match.
“We gave away 20 runs in the field. Few boundaries were of edges so felt undone there. Felt we could’ve chased 200. Everyone knows we have a young bunch, comes down to execution. It’s about learning as fast as possible,” Pooran said after the 1st T20I.
West Indies XI (possible): Shamarh Brooks, Brandon King, Shai Hope (wk), Devon Thomas, Nicholas Pooran (c), Rovman Powell, Odean Smith, Romario Shepherd, Akeal Hosein, Dominic Drakes, Oshane Thomas

For Pakistan, the golden run continues. Though they couldn’t become the T20 WC winners, on Monday they became the first team to win 18 T20Is in a calendar year, beating their own record of 17 wins.
They were clinical with their performances with both bat and ball. It was an all-round performance that had many match-winners in the likes of M Rizwan, Haider Ali, Shadab Khan, and M Wasim Jnr and the hosts are unlikely to make a change in the playing XI.
Pakistan XI (possible): Babar Azam (c), Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Fakhar Zaman, Haider Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, Asif Ali, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Shaheen Afridi
