PAK vs NZ 2nd Test: At lunch on Day 4 of the second Test in Karachi, Tom Latham and Kane Williamson put together an unbeaten 71-run stand to increase New Zealand’s lead to 117. The visitors had bowled Pakistan for 408, taking the final wicket in the morning’s first over, but they lost in-form Devon Conway early in their second innings for a duck.

After giving up a slim lead of 41 runs, Mir Hamza gave the hosts the necessary start. He hit with his very first delivery, a length ball that nipped back slightly and smacked off Conway’s pad and onto the stumps. However, a couple of unfavourable DRS reviews from Pakistan on either side of the drink break ruined the rest of the session.

Despite his reluctance, Pakistani captain Babar Azam was twice persuaded to take the LBW appeal against Kane Williamson upstairs by Abrar Ahmed. Williamson didn’t need to worry, though, as both were slipping down the leg. When he was 14, he went on to finish 7000 Test runs at position no. 3, becoming the fifth man to do so and the first New Zealander to do so.

After the early setback, the pair gradually recovered. Latham produced a few beautiful drives, but he was also fortunate to grab a few more boundaries with the edges running sloppily past the slip fielders.
