With just 10 minutes left on the clock, Jack Leach dealt the death blow as England took a 1-0 lead in the series. But for Pakistan, in a run-fest, Mohammad Ali and Naseem Shah fought their heart out for 40 minutes in the end to save the Test. But with James Anderson and Ollie Robinson bagging 4 wickets each, Pakistan failed to chase down 343. Pakistan folded for 268. It was England’s 3rd Test win in Pakistan and it came after 22 years. The Rawalpindi Test will remain as one of the most high-scoring matches in Test history. A total of 1768 runs were scored in the Rawalpindi Test. In terms of number of runs scored, Rawalpindi Test is now ranked third in Test history.

However, the loss has surely dented Pakistan’s hopes of the World Test Championship Final hopes. Pakistan remained at 5th spot with 46.67 points. England who are already out of WTC Finals race, remain at 7th with 41.67 points.
After England’s bold declaration at Tea on Day 4 on 264/7, Pakistan did not get a good start. They lost Abdullah Shafique and Babar Azam on Day 4. Azhar Ali also retired hurt. Imam Ul Haq and Shaud Shakeel added 64 runs to steady the ship.
While James Anderson dismissed Imam on Day 5, Shafique kept Pakistan in the hunt with an 87-runs stand with Saud Shakeel. But Ollie Robinson broke the stand with Shakeel’s wicket. Although there was a fightback from Agha Salman and Azhar Ali of 61-run stand, once they departed, it was only a formality.
However, Naseem Shah and Mohammad Ali fought valiantly to save the test. They survived nearly 10 overs and 50 minutes. But Jack Leach dismissed Naseem Shah to hand England a famous victory.
