Chasing a modest total of 128 runs, Pakistan had a shaky start as both the in-form openers Babar Azam and Mohd. Rizwan departed cheaply in the fourth over. The Men in Green faced two more big blows as Haider Ali and Shoaib Malik departed on a duck with Pakistan score reading 24/4 at the end of the powerplay.
Fakhar Zaman (34 off 36) and Khushdil Shah (34 off 35) then resurrected the run chase adding 36 runs in the next fours over. Bangladesh bounced back in the game when Taskin Ahmed removed Fakhar Zaman in the fifteenth over. However, the late assault from Shadab Khan (21* off 10) and Mohammad Nawaz (18* off 8) saw the visitors chase down the total with 4 wickets in hand and 4 balls to spare.
Earlier, Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah’s decision to bat first in the 1st T20 turned out to be a disaster. With 4 wickets down inside 9 overs with just 40 runs on board, Bangladesh were in a spot of bother. Had Afif Hossain and Mehedi Hasan not rescued Bangladesh, they would have to stare an embarrassing total. In the end, they could only set a target of 128 for Babar Azam & Co in Dhaka.
Hasan Ali bounced back from the T20 World Cup disaster and put up a fantastic performance with 3/22 in four overs. Mohammed Wasim with 2/24 also came good against struggling Bangladesh.
