Out till February, injured PV Sindhu to remain inside top 10 of BWF rankings

India's star shuttler, injured PV Sindhu will get protected ranking from BWF, and will stay inside top 10 until she makes a comeback on court.

In an important Paris 2024 Olympics qualification year, two-time medalist PV Sindhu injured her left knee at the most inopportune time, at the French Open in October. After a lot of updates by the player herself, Sindhu is not going to use her protected ranking at world no. 10, until she recovers from the injury.

As per the BWF rankings rules, a player once granted the option, can avail of the protected ranking for a minimum of three months, and a maximum of 12 months. Indian star PV Sindhu, meanwhile is expected only to be back in February. Also, her injury came at a time when she had just made a comeback to the top 10 rankings after a gap of seven months.

The 28-year-old had informed her fans of the injury through social media. In a longish post she had written, “After returning from France and undergoing a knee scan, we’ve found a niggle in my left knee. In hindsight, conceding the match was the best call,” Sindhu posted on social media. “Doctors have advised a few weeks rest before I begin training again. The break is also an opportunity to focus on the upcoming Olympics.”

What it Means for Injured PV Sindhu

Whenever Sindhu is back on the circuit, she will not lose any points in her bid to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics, as the qualification period started in May earlier this year. This in fact, more or less would assure her of the Olympics berth, unless she loses significantly after making a return.
