Online Gaming Policy – Government of India (GOI) announces an e-gaming policy, proposing self-regulation to protect players:  With online games spreading across the country rapidly, MeitY (Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology) announces an e-gaming policy, proposing self-regulation, mandatory players’ verification, and additional due diligence. Online Gaming Policy

The MeitY has been made the nodal agency for online gaming. Online gaming firms would be covered under the new IT rules, issued in the year, 2021 for social media platforms. The draft amendments to the IT Act are being placed in the public for comments, and feedback till January 17. The decision to propose self-regulation for gaming companies seems to be a great one. Hwever, it remains to be seen how things unravel in the coming months and years.

Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar explains

Talking about the same, Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar mentioned, ” Online gaming intermediaries will be permitted but if they tend to transgress into betting, they will not be permitted. Our intent is to restrict intermediaries from advertising without permission. We as a team will regulate the Internet.

” Our job is to prescribe rules for the safe and trusted functioning of the internet. Our intention is to ensure growth in the gaming sector. We want more and more online gaming intermediaries but we do not want them to allow wagering on the outcome of their games, ” Rajeev Chandrashekhar further added.

Meanwhile, Reacting to the same, Satyam Rastogi, Founder & CEO, of Khiladi Adda & GamerPe asserted, ” The government’s latest announcement to allow Online Gaming companies to self-regulate themselves has been received positively by the Gaming Companies. The move is a welcoming one, given the fact that the industry has been demanding the same for a long now. The onus of self-regulating our companies is an important task which we aim to adhere to responsibly. The principles of responsible gaming will now be even deeper embedded within the industry, thus also segregating the good apples from the bad ones. The recognition by the government is also a testament to the authorities’ support of the industry and its efforts to boost the sector.
