Paris 2024 dream dashed: Eldhose Paul out of Olympics race after injury

Paul's withdrawal leaves a void in India's athletics contingent for the Paris Olympics.

Indian triple jumper Eldhose Paul’s hopes of competing at the Paris Olympics 2024 have been shattered due to a heel bone injury. The 27-year-old athlete was scheduled to make a final push for qualification at the National Inter-State Athletics Championships but has been forced to withdraw.

Determined Journey cut short

Paul had been on a relentless quest to secure his Olympic berth. He actively participated in multiple competitions, pushing himself to new limits throughout the qualifying period.

However, during his last competition at the JBL Jump Fest, his journey took an unexpected turn.

Injury Strikes to Eldhose Paul

Despite securing a bronze medal at the Jump Fest with a jump of 16.45 meters, Paul sustained a serious injury. Upon returning to India and undergoing further medical evaluation, the news confirmed his worst fears – a fractured calcaneus (heel bone) requiring immediate treatment.

Taking to social media, Paul expressed his profound disappointment: “This news means that my Olympic journey ends here. Words cannot express how heartbreaking this is for me. Representing my country this year would have been the pinnacle of my career.”

Looking forward despite setback

While acknowledging the immense blow this injury deals to his Olympic aspirations, Paul remains optimistic. He recognizes that injuries are an unfortunate reality in athletics and chooses to focus on recovery. “As I take this time to heal and recover, I am reminded that this is not the end of my story,” he concluded in his social media post.

Missed Opportunity for India

However, the entire sporting community will undoubtedly stand behind Paul as he recovers and aims for future successes.
