The Indian women’s hockey team has been without a head coach for a couple of months now, ever since Dutch Janneke Schopman left the after the twin-debacle at Paris 2024 qualifiers and FIH Pro Hockey League. India was poor in both the tournaments and looked under immense pressure.
Now, India having not made it to the Paris Olympics, have a chance to rebuild the entire team, starting with appointing a new coach. Initially, the name of former India men’s coach Harendra Singh was floated. And now, Hockey India recently came up with a tweet, that an exciting news is coming up.
Is Harendra the New Indian Women’s Hockey Team Coach?
The ex-India player, who has vast coaching experience, might just be named the women’s team coach soon. Earlier, Harendra has coached the 2014 and 2016 Indian men’s junior teams. The senior women’s hockey team in 2017, the men’s senior team in 2018, and then went to coach Team USA in 2021.
To get the desired results, he would have to be given a longer rope, that he hasn’t had till now.
