On January 12, 2023, the draw for Round 1 of the Asian qualifiers for the football event at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024 took held. The Indian women’s football team will begin qualifying for the Summer Olympics in Group G. Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan, both from Central Asia, will join the Indian women’s squad in the group. The competition will commence in April 2023. Round 2 of the qualifiers is expected to take place later in 2023, following the completion of Round 1. Apart from India, both countries are making their Olympic debuts in the women’s football event.

Since women’s football was added to the Olympic programme in 1996, Asia’s finest performances have come in the shape of silver medals won by China that year and Japan in 2012. Both of those clubs are among the top five seeds, who will be joined by the five Round One qualifiers for the next round.

India hosted the Women’s Asian Cup in 2022, and the country must establish themselves as a top nation in the continent’s women’s football. The next Asian leg of the Olympic qualifications for Paris 2024 is an excellent opportunity for female footballers to disprove their detractors. This is their seventh Olympic qualifying campaign, and they hope to improve on their previous performance, which saw them reach Round 2 of the qualifiers.

Despite being the favourite to advance from Group G, the Indian women’s football team will face challenges. Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan are both good footballing nations with a solid organisation. Despite their lack of experience in women’s football, they have the ability to surprise.

In Group G, which comprises of three teams, just one qualification position is available. The winning team will go to the second round of Olympic qualifiers in Paris in 2024. Finally, two Asian nations will qualify for the final competition in Paris, where teams from all around the world will compete for medals.
