The 35-year-old reached to the historic milestones in the 42nd over with a couple between long leg and deep midwicket. Kohli reached the three-figure mark in 106 balls.

It was a milestone galore for Virat Kohli at Wankhede Stadium as he broke several records during his 117-run knock.

The 35-year-old set a new record for most 50+ scores in a single edition of World Cup when he reached the fifty mark. The record was earlier held by Sachin Tendulkar with 7 fifty plus knocks in 2003 edition of the tournament.

Most 50-plus scores in a World Cup edition

8 – Virat Kohli (2023)

7 – Sachin Tendulkar (2003)

7 – Shakib Al Hasan (2019)

6 – Rohit Sharma (2019)

6 – David Warner (2019)

He then took over another record of Sachin Tendulkar when he reached 80 as he became the batter with most runs in a single edition of the World Cup.

Most runs in a single World Cup edition:

711* – Virat Kohli (2023)

673 – Sachin Tendulkar (2003)

659 – Matthew Hayden (2007)

648 – Rohit Sharma (2019)

647 – David Warner (2019)

If Kohli’s historic knock leads India to a win, he will also surpass Australia legend Ricky Ponting in scoring most centuries in a winnings cause.
