ODI Cricket to end? Why Wasim Akram thinks ICC should consider ending One-Day Internationals?

  • The former Pakistan captain feels ODI cricket is too long and people might just switch off the TVs after some time.
  • He also feels only in England there are full capacity crowds. In Sub-continent there are no full-capacity crowds.
  • Too much cricket is also being played across the globe. Franchise T20 leagues are also being played everywhere.
  • Akram also feels T20 cricket is good, but ODI cricket is run-of-mill and outdated.

“I think so. In England, you have full houses. In India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and South Africa, you are not going to fill the stadiums during one-day cricket matches,” he said when asked if administrators should consider scrapping ODI cricket,” Akram said during Telegraph’s “Vaughany and Tuffers Cricket Club.

Ben Stokes ODI Retirement: Akram supports Stokes’s decision to retire from ODI

Legendary cricketer Akram has also supported and backed Stokes’s decision to retire from ODI cricket. He feels T20 cricket is a lot more easier and finishes in four hours compared to ODI cricket which stretches till 8 hours.

“T20 is kind of easier as the game is over within four hours. One-day cricket is kind of dying,” he added.
