Kangaroos had earlier dropped three big catches against Pakistan in the T20I semifinals. On the other hand, New Zealand have been rock solid throughout the T20 World Cup, touted as the best fielding side of the competition. Kiwis have saved most runs on the field throughout the tournament, a highlight of their road to the final.
Australia wicket-keeper Mathew Wade dropped a thick under-edge off Guptill off Glenn Maxwell in the 3rd over. He couldn’t hold on to the spinning in delivery. He went on to score crucial 28 runs for the Kiwis in the final.

Josh Hazlewood failed to take the crucial catch of New Zealand captain Kane Williamson who got well set in the middle. During the 11th over, the ball came straight to the hands but he failed to hold on at long leg. It was a full toss from Mitchell Starc and Williamson got underneath it and whipped with his wrist. Hazlewood overran to his left and couldn’t hold to it.
Catch drop effect: Williamson became the second captain to score 50+ in T20 WC finals after Kumar Sangakkara. He went on to score 85 runs off just 48 balls, thrashing Kiwis all around the park.
